The Ranji Trophy league match between Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu, beginning on Tuesday in Chennai, will feature India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as captain, signifying his return to competitive cricket after nearly six months away. The anticipation for the match has been heightened due to Jadeja’s return as it coincides with the start of the critical four-Test series between India and Australia next month. Saurashtra are likely to advance to the knockout round, but the presence of Jadeja has generated considerable enthusiasm.
The four-day game will essentially serve as a fitness test for Jadeja. The day before the match, he had a net session where he used a GPS tracker to keep track of all the necessary fitness metrics. He bowled left-arm spin for 30 minutes and then hit for around the same amount of time. The results of this test will be used to determine if Jadeja is fit enough to play in the upcoming match.
A trainer from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has travelled to Chennai to monitor Ravindra Jadeja’s recovery after his last competitive match in the Asia Cup in August, when he had to have knee surgery. On his first practise with the team, Saurashtra coach Niraj Odedra reported that Jadeja was full of energy. Odedra stated that Jadeja had an abundance of energy which was very evident in the nets.
He wanted to have an extended workout, but it was very important that he did not overexert himself since he was recovering from an injury. Before the boys spent an hour in the nets, he gave them an inspirational speech.
